Bangladesh SSC pass rate falls to 62.25%, lowest since 2021

Bangladesh’s Secondary School Certificate examination pass rate fell to 62.25% in 2026, continuing a steep decline from the record 93.58% recorded in 2021, according to results released Monday.

The overall pass rate dropped 4.08 percentage points from last year. Across nine general education boards, 64.05% of students passed, while the Technical Education Board recorded 58.20% and the Madrasah Education Board posted 55.49%.

The number of students earning the highest grade, GPA-5, also fell to 116,676 from 139,032 last year.

Syed Akhtaruzzaman, chairman of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka, said stricter surveillance and measures against unfair practices contributed to more realistic results.

Educationist Manzoor Ahmed said researchers should examine examination management, school learning conditions and student opportunities before determining the causes of the decline.
