Bangladesh condemns India for allowing Hasina media appearance

Bangladesh expressed “strong displeasure” after former prime minister Sheikh Hasina was allowed to speak with media in New Delhi, saying her remarks harmed efforts to rebuild relations with India.

In a statement Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Hasina and her associates made “malicious statements” against Bangladesh and its people. It said India had been warned that the event could damage bilateral ties.

The ministry called Hasina’s appearance on the second anniversary of the July Revolution an affront to Bangladesh’s sovereignty and disrespectful to those killed during the 2024 uprising. It also accused her of trying to distort established facts about the violence.

Bangladesh said it still seeks a constructive relationship with India based on equality, mutual respect and non-interference. It added that India has not responded to repeated extradition requests for Hasina under a 2013 treaty.
