Police arrested five people in three separate operations in Bangladesh’s Chattogram region and recovered two foreign-made pistols, a magazine, 11 rounds of ammunition and two sharp weapons, authorities said Monday.
Superintendent of police Md Masud Alam said two suspects, Didar Alam and Afsar Mia, were arrested in Sitakunda over the June 13 killing of Jubo Dal leader Maksudul Haque Chowdhury. Police allege they were shooters in a “killing squad” led by Raihan, an alleged associate of listed criminal David Emon.
In another case, police arrested Didarul Alam in Keraniganj over the July 10 killing of Muhammad Nurul Azim in Hathazari. Officers recovered a machete and cleaver.
Police also arrested Md Borhan and Md Rony in an attempted murder case. Masud said investigators are tracing the network’s illegal weapons, finances and alleged shelters.
