Bangladesh plans four new engineering colleges to expand technical education

Bangladesh plans to establish four additional engineering colleges as part of an effort to expand technical education and prepare workers for the global labor market, education minister A. N. M. Ehsanul Hoque Milan said Saturday.

Speaking at Dhaka Government Polytechnic Institute, Milon said the country must move beyond conventional education and place greater emphasis on technical training. He also pledged to develop the institute into a model technical education institution.

“If we can provide them with proper skills before sending them abroad, our economy will become stronger,” Milon said, referring to migrant workers.

Milon said prime minister Tarique Rahman has launched initiatives to turn Bangladesh’s large population into skilled human resources.

At the event, Milon honored families of two students killed during the July-August movement and presented ceremonial scarves to injured students.
