Bangladesh welcomes eased United States travel warning

The United States lowered its travel advisory for Bangladesh from Level 3 to Level 2 on Thursday, citing improved travel conditions, Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry said.

The revised guidance advises travelers to “exercise increased caution,” replacing the previous recommendation to “reconsider travel.”

The ministry described the change as recognition of government efforts to improve security, preserve stability and support international travel, trade, investment and stronger ties between people.

The decision followed a meeting in Dhaka between foreign minister Khalilur Rahman and Sergio Gor, the United States president’s special envoy for South and Central Asian affairs. Gor informed Rahman of the change by text message shortly after the meeting, the ministry said.

Prime minister’s foreign affairs adviser Humaiun Kobir also attended the talks.

The ministry said the revision reflected progress in law and order during the past six months and growing confidence in Bangladesh’s security environment.
