Bangladesh wall collapse kills two at subsidized goods sale

Two people were killed and six injured when a wall collapsed on a crowd seeking subsidized products at Mirpur College in Dhaka, according to local media reports.

Two of the injured were in critical condition, while four suffered broken bones. An investigation committee was formed after the collapse near a Trading Corporation of Bangladesh truck.

The administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation said the college wall had not been constructed according to regulations. The transcript did not identify the administrator, victims or date of the incident.

“These symptoms tell us people are in crisis, they are struggling,” said SM Nazer Hossain, vice president of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh. “Because of this hardship, people are forced to take such risks and chase after trucks to buy TCB products.”

Hossain said trucks carrying goods for 500 people can attract crowds of up to 2,000 and recommended preregistration to reduce overcrowding.
