Government agencies continued disaster response and public awareness campaigns Monday as flood conditions improved in parts of southeastern Bangladesh but river levels rose in the northeast.
All 15 subdistricts of Chattogram and the metropolitan area were affected by flooding. Officials used loudspeakers and road announcements to warn residents about unsafe homes, electrical hazards, snakebites, dengue prevention and the postponement of Higher Secondary Certificate examinations.
Floodwaters receded across much of Khagrachari, Cox’s Bazar and Bandarban, with no new landslides reported. People in Bandarban began returning home from shelters.
In Sylhet, increased rainfall pushed several rivers higher. Kushiyara River was flowing above danger level at Fenchuganj and Markuli, though officials said major or prolonged flooding was not expected.
Conditions remained stable in Sunamganj and Moulvibazar, while floodwaters receded in parts of Habiganj. Fifteen unions remained inundated in Moulvibazar, where embankment breaches appeared in Kamalganj.
