Two journalists were assaulted outside Kaliganj Police Station in Jhenaidah while filming a human chain formed by local women, according to the victims.
The reporters said a group of men confronted the women, then attacked them as they recorded the scene. One journalist was punched and slapped. They identified several alleged attackers, including Jalal, Shahin Laskar and Hasan.
The journalists accused officer-in-charge Jellal Hossain of arranging the assault in retaliation for reporting that alleged he confiscated and hid an accused person’s mobile phones. Hossain later returned the devices after publicity, they said.
“Where is our safety today?” one journalist said.
The reporters demanded a formal investigation and review of closed-circuit television footage, which they said would show Hossain’s direct involvement.
