Bangladesh’s unified Bangla Quick Response payment system recorded 77,165 transactions worth 22.02 crore taka, about $1.79 million, over two days, Bangladesh Bank data showed.
The transactions were logged June 30 and July 1, around the central bank’s deadline for financial institutions to shift to the standardized system.
Bangladesh Bank developed Bangla Quick Response under the National Payment Switch Bangladesh platform as a “one country, one Quick Response” mechanism for digital payments.
The system lets merchants, from malls to roadside vendors, accept payments with a printed code instead of separate codes from banks or Mobile Financial Service providers.
Bangladesh Bank spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan said consumers will not pay extra.
“Consumers can make purchases through Bangla QR without paying any charge,” Khan said.
