Content creator AM Hasan Nasim was sent to jail Saturday after a Dhaka court rejected a police request to question him in custody in a cyber case tied to social media posts and alleged blackmail of Jatiya Sangsad chief whip Nurul Islam Moni.
Case was filed at Gulshan Police Station by Bangladesh Nationalist Party activist Nazrul Islam, who said he acted on his own rather than with Moni’s authorization. Nasim was detained Friday night by Dhaka Metropolitan Police detectives and produced in court with a seven-day remand request.
Magistrate Md Hasib Ullah Pias denied that request and set a bail hearing for Sunday, April 19. National Citizen Party condemned arrest, calling case baseless and questioning whether complaint met Cyber Security Ordinance requirements.
