Bangladesh and Pakistan trade increased by nearly 20% in last fiscal year to about $865 million, Pakistan’s high commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider said Sunday after meeting chief adviser Muhammad Yunus at State Guest House Jamuna.
Haider said businesses in both countries are exploring new investment opportunities. He said officials also discussed ways to expand cooperation in trade, investment and aviation. They also talked about strengthening cultural, educational and medical exchanges. He said interest among Bangladeshi students in higher education in Pakistan has risen, including in medical sciences and artificial intelligence, and noted more patients traveling for transplants.
Haider said flights from Dhaka to Karachi are expected to start in January.
In 2023-24 fiscal year, trade was about $711.7 million, according to State Bank of Pakistan. Bangladesh’s National Board of Revenue said exports include tea and ready-made garments.
