Dhaka has formally asked New Delhi for the second time to extradite former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who was sentenced to death by Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal on November 17 for crimes against humanity during last year’s July uprising.
Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain said the letter was sent out on Friday.
The earlier request, sent in December, drew no response from India.
The ministry has also asked India to hand over Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and warned that granting asylum to either figure would be considered unfriendly behavior. Bangladesh says the 2013 extradition treaty obligates India to return Hasina. Her diplomatic passport has already been revoked.
