The Bangladesh government has launched an ambitious initiative to digitize all registered land deeds to curb fraud, forgery, and ownership disputes, the Ministry of Land said Wednesday.
Under the plan, all land documents dating back to the Registration Act of 1908 will be uploaded and preserved on a central government website in phases.
Once complete, citizens and expatriates will be able to verify and download certified copies of their deeds online.
Officials say the move marks the first time in the country’s 117-year registration history that all records will be brought under one digital system. The project also aims to recover and preserve documents damaged or lost during the 1947 Partition and the 1971 Liberation War.
