Police arrested 1,748 people across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours as part of a continuing nationwide crackdown on suspected criminals, the state-run Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) news agency reported Wednesday.
According to a statement from Police Headquarters, 1,207 of those detained were wanted in previous cases or under outstanding warrants, while 541 others were held on various new charges.
Authorities said officers also seized a cache of weapons during the operation, including a foreign pistol, a foreign revolver, a single-barrel gun, a local pipe gun, a light gun, a magazine, two cartridges, and several sharp weapons.
The arrests are part of an intensified drive by law enforcement agencies aimed at curbing unrest and bringing fugitives to justice, BSS said.
