Bangladesh imports over 129,000 tons of U.S. wheat this fiscal year

Bangladesh has imported more than 129,000 tons of wheat from the United States so far this fiscal year under two government-to-government contracts, the Food Ministry said Monday.

A ship carrying about 67,000 short tons arrived at Chattogram Port, following another with 63,000 tons last week. The ministry signed two deals to buy a total of 485,000 tons of U.S. wheat at prices of $302.75 and $308 per ton, including freight and insurance.

Officials said the imports aim to reduce the trade gap with the United States and stabilize domestic grain supplies amid global price volatility.
