Bangladesh’s interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus, promised justice and reform after the July 2024 uprising. Yet reports by Odhikar and the Manabadhikar Sanskriti Foundation show grim continuity.
At least 40 people have been killed in alleged extrajudicial incidents, and 13 more died in custody last month. These abuses echo the repression that the uprising sought to end.
Yunus must order transparent investigations, suspend those implicated, and bring offenders to trial. Failing to act would betray the public’s faith in this interim government.
The promise of a new beginning for Bangladesh cannot be fulfilled without justice for every victim and accountability for every crime.
