Who are the 15 Hasina-era officers now in custody?

Fifteen serving Bangladesh Army officers were sent to jail Wednesday after being produced before the International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) in Dhaka on charges of crimes against humanity, including enforced disappearances, torture, and killings during the July–August 2024 uprising that led to the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government.

The tribunal, chaired by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, ordered their detention after police presented them amid tight security. Prosecutors said the men face three formal cases tied to operations at the Taskforce for Interrogation (TFI) Cell, the Joint Interrogation Cell (JIC), and incidents of killings in Rampura during the 2024 unrest.

Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam confirmed the officers were in army custody before their court appearance. Defense counsel Barrister M Sarwar Hossain claimed they had voluntarily surrendered to face charges.

The accused are part of a broader group of officials — including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her security adviser Tarique Ahmed Siddique, and several ex–law enforcement chiefs — charged with crimes committed over the past decade and a half.
