The father of a suspect in the Rajbari darbar sharif attack has handed his son over to police after recognizing him in a video of the violence.
Arif Kazi said his son, Apu Kazi, 25, appeared among those exhuming the body of Nurul Haque, known locally as “Nural Pagla,” whose tomb was at the center of protests.
Police said Apu and six others were arrested Saturday and sent to jail Sunday. By Monday, the number of arrests rose to 14, with two suspects giving confessional statements under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Families of two others insisted they are minors and students.
Police filed a case against 3,000 to 3,500 unnamed people over the attack, vandalism, and assault on officers. One person was killed.
