Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam has described the upcoming parliamentary elections as a historic test for the Bangladesh Police.
Speaking at the inauguration of an election training program at Rajarbagh Police Lines on Sunday, he said about 150,000 officers will be deployed across the country during the polls, with their performance closely monitored both nationally and internationally.
“If we fulfill our electoral duties with honesty, efficiency and impartiality, we will be able to re-establish the image of the police. The opportunity has come to prove in the international arena that the Bangladesh Police is a modern, democracy-friendly and effective force,” Alam said.
Alam stressed that the police must carry out their duties with honesty, efficiency, and impartiality to restore public trust and prove themselves as a modern, democracy-friendly force. He urged officers to apply their training in the field, remain neutral under pressure, and prioritize solutions over conflicts.
Calling for patience, prudence, and readiness for sacrifice, the IGP said the goal is to deliver peaceful and participatory elections.
