President Donald Trump on Monday called the U.S. trade relationship with India “very one-sided,” saying New Delhi has offered to cut tariffs on American goods to zero but “too late.”
Trump, who recently imposed tariffs as high as 50 percent on Indian imports, also criticized India’s reliance on Russian oil and weapons. “India buys most of its oil and military products from Russia, very little from the U.S.,” he wrote on Truth Social.
In 2024, U.S. goods trade with India grew 4.1 percent to $129 billion. Exports rose 3.4 percent to $42 billion, while imports climbed 4.5 percent to $87 billion, widening the trade deficit by 5.4 percent to $46 billion.
